Lower Sixth Team Building Weekend
On Friday 3rd September, the Lower Sixth left school to visit Rock UK Summit Centre in South Wales for a team building weekend.
Despite the air con on the bus breaking, spirits were high when we arrived later in the evening where we were greeted by the lovely Summit Centre instructors. After the evening bonfire, hosted brilliantly by the “Gappies” and the teachers, we settled down for the night, tired after the long drive.
The next morning we were all greeted with a full fry up in the canteen before we started our activities. I was a part of Group 4 and our first activity was the crate stack - a true test of balance and teamwork. Our second activity was bushcraft, in which we were taught to make fires and shelters that would keep us protected from the wind. After a hearty lunch we went back out ready for afternoon activities; Group 4’s afternoon activities were caving and rock climbing, both of these were great fun and an adventure for everyone. The Saturday evening bonfire was also very popular, especially the marshmallows and digestive biscuits.
On Sunday morning we woke up early again ready for another day of activities and challenges. My final activity was the canoeing and, despite getting absolutely drenched, was probably my personal favourite. After our last lunch at Rock UK we stripped our beds and loaded back onto the coach, all exhausted after a brilliant few days.
Finally, a huge thank you from all of Lower Sixth students to Dr Horler-Underwood, Miss Comens, Mrs O’Brien, Mr Salmon and the “Gappies” for such a great ice-breaking weekend.
