A Level Results Exceed National Expectations
Students at the King’s School in Gloucester have today received results which defy national expectations and continue the upward trend of academic achievement at King’s.
Of this year’s results, over 25% were at A*/A and 59% of all grades were A*-B. There was a 100% pass rate. In BTEC Sport, all students achieved Distinction or starred Distinction in every part of the course, which equates to all A/A* grades at A Level.
The students have worked hard to achieve such positive results which are particularly impressive as these were their first-ever certificated exams.
The Headmaster, Mr David Morton, commented, “Our students have worked tirelessly in an ever-shifting educational landscape to achieve results of which they can be incredibly proud.
And whilst it is important to recognise our students’ academic success, we also need to reflect on how these students have developed their broader life skills, not least resilience and independence, as a result of lockdown learning. They should be very proud of all that they have achieved: they leave school as kind, talented, well-rounded citizens who have bright futures ahead of them.”
Destinations include students reading reading Exercise and Sports Science at Exeter; Geography at Loughborough; Biological Sciences at Warwick; Music at Southampton; and Psychology at Cardiff.
In addition, this year two of our students have received offers at prestigious international universities: the highly sought after Vassar College in the USA and McGill University in Canada.
King’s has a longstanding reputation for supporting pupils to achieve their individual goals. This year has seen exceptional achievements in several areas. For example, one pupil gained a highly competitive IBM internship in New York and one student has just finished filming a lead role in a second TV series in Belgium. We celebrate students choosing many other paths with some of our strongest all-rounders going into the armed forces (Army and Navy), the Police Force, apprenticeships in Finance and Computer Science and one who has gained a place at a highly competitive national Dance Studio.
Along with the academic achievements of the year group, David Morton also paid tribute to the skills of the students beyond the classroom, “It is important to stress that these students represent far more than purely the excellent results that have been achieved today. At King’s, academic excellence goes hand in hand with values such as kindness and compassion for our community, as well as a vibrant co-curricular life.
This year group raised money for Maggie’s by running in the Gloucester 10k, performed in the school production of ‘School of Rock’, had a Gloucester Young Musician Finalist, conducted fundraising for our partner school in Dornakal, India, including sponsoring children, volunteering with a Japanese School, as well as with the Gloucester City HAF through the summer holidays and much more. This year group will be remembered fondly for their strong academic ability, their calm leadership of the school and superb ‘can-do’ attitude in the most trying of circumstances.”
