The Tudors in Love
On Wednesday afternoon, with the sun shining brightly in the sky, Lower and Upper Sixth Historians had the pleasure of attending the locally renowned Gloucester History Festival.
In a city bathed in such historic value, where more fitting an environment than the intricate Great Hall of Blackfriars’s Priory?
The talk was an opportunity to broaden our knowledge beyond the curriculum of love in a strict and arguably loveless era. Where noble marriages were often made for convenience rather than true affection, during a forty-five-minute lecture,
Sarah Gristwood illuminated the audience on what made Tudor love so distinct. Dissecting the codes of courtship, desire but also the romantic Arthurian legends that threaded such a pivotal role in the Tudor dynasty, everyone certainly left the room feeling enlightened by the new-found knowledge gained from the experience.
