We extend a warm welcome to Dr Matthew Lim who joins the King’s School as the new Deputy Head Academic, responsible for all Senior School academic matters.

Prior to joining us, Matthew was the Deputy Head Academic at Bancroft’s School in Woodford, London and a Governor at the Drapers’ Academy in Harold Hill. He is a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Educators and received the Freedom of the City of London in 2023.

But his career hasn’t always been in the city; before this, Matthew was the Head of Digital Education at the Cheltenham Ladies’ College where he founded the Engineering, Enterprise and Technology Department in 2015. He has won numerous teaching awards, most recently The GESS Education Award - Best use of STEAM Learning in the Classroom (2021).

Originally educated in Singapore, Matthew graduated top of his year from Birmingham University before moving to Cambridge to complete his PhD. He was a Scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and published articles in several peer-reviewed scientific journals and regularly gave plenaries at international scientific conferences. The breadth of his research has spanned a variety of fields such as tissue engineering, stem cell biology and nuclear physics.

He has an MBA from Coventry University (2022), an MEd in Educational Leadership and School Improvement from Cambridge University (2016), an NPQH from UCL (2019) and is currently reading for an MSc in Teaching and Learning at Oxford University.

Matthew is an advanced scuba diver and lives with his family in Cheltenham.  He enjoys playing the guitar and walking in the countryside.
