Our 'Concert for Dornakal' was held on Saturday evening at St Lawrence Church, Barnwood and we are delighted to have raised a fantastic £900.
It was a lovely evening and our young performers, ranging from 7 - 17 years of age, surpassed themselves; they were superb. The church was packed and there was a wonderful atmosphere. There was a great range of music and singing from Hudson’s beatbox to Harriet’s wonderful rendering of ‘Poor Wandering One’ from The Pirates of Penzance. There were amazing recorder pieces, cello, viola, piano and French horn as well as a trio ensemble and duets.
The raffle was very successful and everyone appreciated the home-baked cakes and cookies after the concert. Many thanks go to all who helped, from our bakers in the kitchen to pupils who donated, our raffle sellers and kitchen assistants on the night, and especially to John Pennington, Catherine Sawyer, Dee Peters and Pippa Harrison from the music department.
Bishop Padma Rao sent a letter of appreciation and encouragement to everyone who took part:
‘I would like to express my deepest gratitude for the concert for Dornakal to support the education of children at the rural DDEM High School in Dornakal. Your efforts will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact on the lives of those children, providing them with the opportunity to pursue their dreams and aspirations through education. May the concert unfold with grand success.’
