The Albany Trio Concert for International Women's Day 2023
On Wednesday 8th March, The Albany Trio visited King's to run two workshops, followed by a performance in the evening to raise money for The Nelson Trust - a charity that supports women and their families across the South West.
The morning workshop was aimed at pupils in the Junior School and in the afternoon the trio rehearsed with a number of Senior School pupils, preparing three ensemble pieces for two violins, two cellos and two pianists. All the music was composed by female composers. At lunchtime, Ms Harrison (Head of Keyboard Studies, and pianist in the Albany Trio) organised a pupil recital with works by female composers.
Then in the evening The Albany Trio gave a fantastic performance to a full audience in the Ivor Gurney Hall. Described as a 'diverse and innovative ensemble with fastidious musicianship', the Trio are committed to bringing works by female composers to new audiences. The concert raised over £140 for The Nelson Trust.
It was a packed day of music making designed to enrich and stretch our talented musicians. Many thanks to Ms Harrison for organising a wonderful day of music and to all the pupils who took part.
