King's School, Gloucester, is celebrating an extraordinary achievement as the 1st XV rugby team has been crowned champions of the national Continental Tyres Schools Vase competition against King Edward’s School in Birmingham in the final, which was held at Twickenham on Thursday, 13th March 2025.

Despite falling behind at half time, King’s Gloucester came back onto the pitch and turned the game around in a stunning second half, achieving something truly remarkable and securing a decisive 29-16 victory.

Over 500 pupils, families, staff, and alumni were out in full force to support the team, creating an electric atmosphere at Twickenham. Their cheers helped drive the team to this incredible achievement, marking a defining moment in the school’s 484-year sporting history.

Many of the team also play for their local rugby clubs, including Cinderford and Cheltenham Tigers, and have represented Gloucester Rugby in their DPP and Academy programme.

Head Coach Aidan Barr expressed immense pride in the team: "This victory is the result of months of hard work, dedication, and belief. The boys have shown remarkable resilience throughout the competition, and to win on such a prestigious stage is truly special."

The Continental Tyres Schools Finals Day featured a series of high-level matches, which saw another Gloucestershire team, Hartpury U18 ACE girls, narrowly defeated by Exeter College, but the King's School’s victory will be remembered as one of the most inspiring moments of the day.

Congratulations are extended to the players, coaches, and all those who supported the team on this journey. This triumph will serve as an inspiration for future generations of King’s School rugby players.
