Third Form Classics Trip to Caerleon
July 30th 2019
The Third Form Classics groups enjoyed a day trip to Caerleon and Caerwent and learned about the lives of Roman soldiers in Caerleon, the places where they kept fit (on the palaestra and in the baths), their home in the barracks, where they slept and what they ate and the amphitheatre where the soldiers put on military displays.
They also visited Caerwent, led by John Barnard, who described the Roman city and the lifestyle of the people who lived there before the city had to be abandoned after the river silted up. It was a fascinating day and a wonderful insight into Roman life.
