Alex Smith has joined the King’s School, Gloucester as Academic Deputy Head. He has had a varied education and background; born in Newcastle, he then moved to the Midlands, went to Cambridge University, where he gained a Masters in Education and a 1st Class Degree in Classics, and then started his career as a teacher in London.  He has enjoyed every school he has worked in immensely, commenting “it is a pleasure to work in a sector with such dedicated staff and talented pupils.” Alex will be teaching Classics at King's.

Alex’s hobbies include playing squash and long distance running and admits to being fairly competitive.  His two boys (both under three) also keep him busy, and he is currently learning train facts to keep up with his eldest child’s obsession with them.

“King’s has a real strength nurturing pupils’ individual passions and this, together with its historic tradition and its strong sense of community, is what appealed to me about the school. I hope to be able to continue to foster this atmosphere and help further drive its success as one of the UK’s leading independent schools.”
