As a celebration of learning about life and experiences of those who had lived through WW2, pupils in Upper Prep treated parents, grandparents and friends to an afternoon of music and dance with an authentic 1940s afternoon tea.

Accompanied by the wonderful Mrs Sawyer,  Upper Prep sang 'It's a Long Way to Tipperary', 'Run Rabbit, Run' and 'Pack Up Your Troubles' and a very moving rendition of 'White Cliffs of Dover' that bought a tear to the eye of many in the audience.

The pupils, who were dressed in 1940s costumes, then took to the stage and showed off their swing moves to Glen Miller's 'In the Mood' - Mrs Woodliffe had choreographed a superb dance set worthy of a 10 from Len! Guests were invited to take to the floor and dance with the pupils for a final flourish.

Everyone worked up an appetite after all the energetic dancing so it was great that the children had prepared tea!  Not only did they prepare it, but as they had researched what people ate at the time they want to be accurate with the menu. Guests had the choice of spam, egg or sardine sandwiches, scone and jam and carrot cake (we guessed that King's farming connections during the war would have allowed for some dairy products to be available).

It was a really lovely afternoon and huge thanks must go to our enthusiastic and creative Upper Prep teachers Julie Johnson and Louisa Hammond. This kind of immersive teaching is such a great way for children to understand and learn about history.
