Upper Prep visit the 2020 Virtual Hay Festival
According to Upper Prep pupil Daisy, "The 2020 Hay Festival was the best year yet!"
Here's why, it was a virtual one! And Daisy 's class were the lucky ones who got to take part.
They got to see where Cressida Cowell writes and illustrates her best selling stories. I bet you don't know where it is? It's her garden shed!
In Cressida Cowell's video, she showed them how she drew Xar, Wish and Bodkin in the Wizards of Once, she also drew Toothless the Night Fury from her famous stories How to Train your Dragon. Cressida Cowell's 3rd book, the Wizard of Once, the new one coming out, sounded very good. Cressida has now inspired Daisy to write a book.
In the second video, they met Onjali Q Rauf, the author of The Boy who Sat at the Back of the Class. Her video was very heartbreaking because she told a story of how a three year old refugee drowned with his brother and mum - it was so sad. The dad didn't get on a dinghy as there was no space, so he was still alive and he was probably really sad too. Also, another story she told was when she met a baby with his mum and the police came to destroy all the Refugees' camps including them and all of their belongings too, she never saw this family again and doesn't know if they survived.
After hearing these snippets I can see why Daisy claimed it to be the best one yet. Go online and check it out for yourself! It runs until 31st May and there are lots of live, free events to watch:
