3rd Form Trip to Renishaw
On the 8th of January 2018, members of the third form had a very informative trip to Renishaw, one of Gloucestershire’s biggest engineering companies. They learnt about micron measurements, magnetism in electronics as well as having a tour around the site exploring many of Renishaw’s projects and how they enhanced medical technology. All of the pupils thoroughly enjoyed the hands on activity which was learning how to create their own multi-coloured torches.
Some pupils were lucky enough to have a go on a cycle power energy generator, created by a former A-level apprenticeship student. Students found out how their speed transferred into energy joules to brighten LED lamps that were on the front of the machine. All the students enjoyed the trip. One said:
“I found this trip very interesting and I learnt a lot of new facts that would be beneficial for the engineering career I would like to pursue!”
Another commented:
“Renishaw was a very exciting trip, I learnt about 3D printing and how Renishaw are one of the sponsors for helping the Bloodhound racing car beat the world record for the fastest land speed ever recorded.”
Overall the pupils were amazed by the precision of the machinery and the programming of the tools. All who attended the trip found it very inspirational to their future careers and would recommend this trip to all who are considering engineering in the future.
