Remembrance Service 2019
On Friday 8th November the school held their annual service of remembrance to honour those who have fallen in both world wars and subsequent conflict.
During the service we featured Lieutenant Michael Janvrin who was a member of the Royal Navy. Lieutenant Janvrin was one of our former pupils and was killed in action in January of 1942.
When attending the school between 1925 - 1929, Michael took an active part in school life, being one of the cast of the school play 'The Musical Box' and winning an English prize in his final year.
With the onset of the Second World War in 1939, Michael was appointed to HMS Ursula and after many war patrols with enemy ships in the North Sea, he went on to join the crew of HMS Triumph. HMS Triumph was lost at sea and nobody knows of it's exact fate.
Lieutenant Janvrin, as well as many other of our war heroes, never returned to his home in Gloucester. He was awarded a posthumous Distinguished Service Cross for his work in submarine patrols.
During our service, wreaths of poppies were laid by our Head Boy and My Graham Terret who left King's in 1940 and served in the RAF for 5 years. Mr Terrett took part in missions over Germany in the early part of the war and then over Burma.
Our Preacher for the service was Revd. Lindsay Collins. Revd. Collins is Senior Chaplain at The King's School in Canterbury. As such, she leads services, worship and prayer in the splendid surroundings of Canterbury Cathedral whilst offering support and counselling to the King's Canterbury Community.
