This term, Lower Shell (Year Five) is studying the subject of ‘Water’ for their Geography lessons. As part of the topic, we were lucky enough to have Severn Trent Water visit the school to run a school assembly, followed by a workshop. They came in to tell us all about water and how precious it is and, therefore, why we need to consider ways of saving water. For example, turning the tap off when we clean our teeth and taking a four-minute shower, instead of a bath.

There are many things that we flush down the toilet and put down our sinks that cause blockages. Here are some examples: fat, even though it is runny when you put it down the sink, it solidifies and blocks your pipes; nappies, these are the most common cause of blockages because they can easily clog up pipes; flushable toilet wipes – just because the packet says that they are flushable this does not mean that they will not cause blockages. These are just a few things that we learnt cause blockages. At the end of the visit, Lower Shell were very pleased to have been educated so that they can help keep our water system in the best possible condition.
