Gloucester Rugby Club and The King’s School: celebrating 150 years of rugby success

Rugby is an important part of today’s school life at King’s and our connection with Gloucester Rugby Club is founded on a long and successful history that stretches back to the Club’s first match against King’s on 11th October 1873 – an incredible 150 years ago!

Today, this partnership has never been stronger. We have three boys representing Gloucester in the U18 Academy League; two boys in the U17’s and three boys in the U16’s. This has given the School 1st XV team a fantastic start to the season, with a streak of four match wins.

Our Head of Rugby, Mr Aidan Barr, is a lead coach at the Academy in the Development Player Programme. George Skivington, Gloucester Rugby Head Coach, and a King’s parent, runs coaching and mentoring sessions for our pupils. We host Gloucester Rugby holiday coaching clubs and recently provided classrooms when the team had to go ‘back to school’ to take exams.

As members of the wider Gloucestershire community and embedded in the history of the city, we our incredibly proud of our long and successful partnership with the Rugby Club and look forward to the next 150 years.
